Hockey Accessories

Outside the lines

Hockey accessories have shown a knack for straying from the blue line and making their way onto the silver screen. Of course, classics like "Slap Shot" and "Youngblood" and more recent films such as "Mystery, Alaska" and "Miracle" feature their fair share of hockey equipment. Yet some of the most famous on-screen hockey accessories debuted in films that had little or nothing to do with hockey.

"Car!...Game on!...Car!...Game On!..."

  • Cameron Frye wears a Gordie Howe Detroit Red Wings jersey in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."
  • Wayne and Garth hit the streets with their hockey gear in "Wayne's World."
  • Every Kevin Smith film to date makes use hockey accessories, from the rooftop street hockey game in "Clerks", to Joey Lauren Adams's Toronto Maple Leafs jersey in "Chasing Amy", to Azrael's minions' use of hockey sticks and other hockey accessories in "Dogma."
  • Perhaps the most famous hockey accessory of all is Jason Voorhees's goalie mask, which he uses to hide his disfigured face in the "Friday the 13th" films.

Get in the game

Generally, you don't need to play hooky, sandbag on the job, or terrorize the folks around Crystal Lake to have fun with hockey accessories. But like in these famous movies, you don't need a hockey rink either. You can get your own pick up game together with a few sticks, a puck or ball, and a few other street hockey accessories like pads and helmets, a must if you're playing on in-line skates. If you can't field a team, fine tune your slap shot on your own with mini hockey goals or hockey shooting targets.

They may not make famous, but there are plenty of hockey accessories out there to help you capture the fun of the sport, on or off the ice.
